ABOUT AMERICAN ASSOCIATED PHARMACIES - AAP
American Associated Pharmacies is a member-owned cooperative comprised of over 2,000 independent pharmacies. AAP began operations on September 1, 2009, when two major pharmacy cooperatives, United Drugs of Phoenix, Arizona and Associated Pharmacies, Inc. of Scottsboro, Alabama joined forces to form one of America’s largest independent pharmacy organizations.
AAP consists of the parent organization, which manages our master agreements, and two subsidiaries: United Drugs, which handles Managed Care services and other service related programs; and API, our distribution arm, which sells RX and OTC to our member pharmacies and customers at a discount from a central warehouse.
AAP is overseen by an elected Board of Directors made exclusively of independent pharmacy owners, ensuring that the real world concerns of our members are being addressed. AAP, United Drugs and API senior management have over a century of experience combined in the wholesale, retail, chain, and cooperative pharmacy industries all working for you as an AAP member.
AAP as an organization works to keep pharmaceutical costs down to our members through a series of contracts, rebates and dividends, lowering a pharmacy’s cost of doing business and improving their bottom line. In 2010, AAP and its subsidiaries paid over $58 million in rebates and dividends, and saved our pharmacies millions more in operating and acquisition costs. We are able to achieve this level of return due not only to size, but through our market relationships. As a matter of fact, AAP is considered the 11th largest drug “Chain” in America by Drug Store News.
We hope you will consider the possibility of joining AAP as a member. Remember, we work for our members, which means, we work for you!
